Benlai Latest Chinese E-Commerce Company to Commit to BAP

Benlai Group has pledged to source seafood from Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP)-certified facilities as part of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that the China-based e-commerce company signed with the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) on July 22.

Benlai is a leader in providing high quality, traceable food in China, and its online platform is currently used by BAP producers such as CP Group, Guolian Group, Deyan Aquatic Products, Honghu Fishery, Xiangtai Group and more. Benlai has committed to working more closely with GAA to jointly promote the BAP program and provide its customers with more BAP-certified products. Benlai also plans to increase the percentage of BAP-certified products it sells.

“Chinese e-commerce companies continue to lead the market with innovative techniques to market seafood to consumers, and I’d like to congratulate Benlai.com for both its eight anniversary and its commitment to bringing assurances of responsible seafood to Chinese consumers through BAP certification,” said GAA’s Steve Hart, who heads up BAP’s market development team in Asia.

With the addition of Benlai, the industry-leading BAP program now has 34 Chinese retail and foodservice companies committed to sourcing seafood from BAP-certified processing plants, farms, hatcheries and feed mills.
