Norwegian company SeaRAS was named the winner of the Nor-Fishing Foundation’s Innovation Award this week at the annual Aqua Nor conference in Trondheim.

The SeaRAS Aquasense device is a mobile, wireless and real-time monitoring system for measuring water parameters in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) and in wellboats, vessels that carry out animal health tasks at salmon net pen operations at sea.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas has a negative effect on fish health and can lead to mortality events. Aquasense can measure H2S levels as low as 0.05 µg per liter and can send out alarms if levels rise above a limit set by authorities. The company says its technology is already installed in numerous RAS systems and in wellboats during pumping, transport and treatment.

SeaRAS manager Eldar Lien accepted the award, which included NOK 100,000, presented to the Bergen-based company by Norway’s Fisheries Minister Odd Emil Ingebrigtsen.
