Examining the protozoan Perkinsus sp. in Mexican Pacific oyster aquaculture

The prevalence of Perkinsus sp. in cultured Pacific oysters and the infection intensity during an annual culture cycle using two detection methods were studied in Sinaloa, Mexico. Pathogen prevalence varied depending on the temperature and the age of the culture.
