GAA’s First Annual Report Highlights Accomplishments, Goals

GAA’s First Ever Annual Report Highlights Accomplishments, Goals

The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) is pleased to announce that it has published its first ever annual report.

The 32-page 2018 annual report — released on March 14, just prior to the 2019 edition of Seafood Expo North America (SENA) — lays out the 22-year-old organization’s accomplishments and goals for both its pre-competitive advocacy and education work as well as its industry-leading third-party aquaculture certification program, Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP). The centerpiece of the annual report is GAA’s new vision statement, “A world that embraces and enables the role of responsibly farmed seafood in meeting global nutrition needs.”

Among the highlights of the annual report are growth in membership (membership doubled in 2017 and again in 2018 and is expected to double again this year) and growth in the BAP program (at the end of 2018 there were 2,287 BAP-certified processing plants, farms, hatcheries and feed mills worldwide, up almost 30% from 2017). The annual report also includes a letter from GAA Executive Director Andrew Mallison and from GAA President George Chamberlain, a section on GAA’s alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and testimonials from key industry stakeholders.
