GAA/BAP Exhibiting at 21st India International Seafood Show
The Global Aquaculture Alliance and its industry-leading Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) third-party certification program is exhibiting at the 21st India International Seafood Show (IISS) in Goa, India, from Jan. 27 to 29.
GAA/BAP is exhibiting in stand E77, and Panchu Duraisamy, BAP country coordinator for India, will be in attendance.
This year, IISS features more than 135 exhibitors representing multiple industry segments, including processing, importing and exporting, wholesaling, distribution, equipment and services, government and NGOs, for both wild fisheries and aquaculture. Also in attendance are some of the region’s leading retail and foodservice seafood buyers.
Established in Mumbai in 1973, the biennial trade show — which this year takes place at the Open Sports Complex Ground in Fatorda, Margao, Goa — is jointly organized by India’s Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) and the Seafood Exporters Association of India. It is one of Asia’s largest seafood trade show.
This year’s highlight will be India’s commitment to “safe and sustainable seafood production for export,” according to the event website.
India’s is the world’s second largest farmed seafood producer, and BAP’s presence in India is strong, with about 300 BAP-certified processing plants, farms hatcheries and feed mills, mainly for shrimp. That’s roughly 15 percent of the total number of BAP-certified facilities worldwide.
