BMR Seafood Group Sets Sights On Four-Star BAP
BMR Seafood Group has applied its brand new feed mill for Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification. If the feed mill attains BAP certification, BMR Seafood would be eligible to offer four-star BAP shrimp, meaning that the company’s processing plant, farm, hatchery and feed mill are all BAP certified, the program’s highest designation.
The feed mill is located on the same property as the company’s BAP-certified processing plant in Nellore, India. The feed mill is expected to produce 75,000 metric tons of feed in 2016.
BMR Seafood’s proprietary high-protein animal feed is formulated to provide the maximum results for high stocking density farming. The feed, which is being marketed under Harvest Gold brand, has received excellent reviews from local farmers, according to the company. The feed mill is the first of its kind in India to use German-manufactured Bhuler machinery, recognized for its cutting edge technology of mixture and grinding.
“BMR Seafood has had one goal in mind from the day they introduced vannamei shrimp to the rest of the world in 2004 — ‘quality first.’ With the addition of the new feed mill and its BAP certification, BMR Seafood will be the first in India to own and control all the components of the supply chain. We expect this will give our buyers the assurances of knowing that BMR Seafood can account for every pound of shrimp we produce,” said Alfred Nasti, director of U.S. shrimp sales for BMR Seafood USA.
