China’s Hisealink Commits to Sourcing BAP Seafood

The Global Aquaculture Alliance is proud to announce that Hisealink, a leading global food sourcing and distribution network for restaurants and hotels across China, is incorporating GAA’s Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) third-party certification program into its sustainable seafood sourcing policy.

Hisealink and its purchasing and trading platform, Fresh Food Smart Choice, are pledging to preferentially source seafood from BAP-certified facilities for its network of more than 1,000 restaurants and five-star hotels in 300 cities across China.

Hisealink has always been dedicated to providing its customers with high quality, safe food. Food safety is a key component of the BAP program, along with environmental responsibility, social responsibility, animal health and welfare, and traceability. Currently, there are nearly 2,300 BAP-certified facilities in 33 countries on six continents, representing 29 farmed seafood species.

“We are very excited to start this new relationship with Hisealink. Bringing sustainable seafood to the market is really a team effort involving the whole supply chain, from farms all the way to the end user. An important part of that supply chain is the distributor. Without partners like Hisealink, who are committed to sourcing sustainable seafood for their restaurant and hotel clients, our sustainability mission wouldn’t work,” said GAA VP of Asia Business Development Steve Hart.

Based in Shenzhen, China, Hisealink has more than 10 years of experience in global food sourcing and distribution. It is committed to establishing open, efficient and honest new mechanisms in Chinese food and beverage procurement and supply. Hisealink and its Fresh Food Smart Choice platform encompasses procurement and trading, supply-chain management, information exchange, finance, interactive communities and third-party services.

BAP is the world’s most comprehensive third-party aquaculture certification program, covering the entire aquaculture production chain, with standards for processing plants, hatcheries, farms and feed mills. Additionally, the program is compliant with the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), Global Social Compliance Programme (GSCP) and Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI).

About BAP
A division of the Global Aquaculture Alliance, Best Aquaculture Practices is an international certification program based on achievable, science-based and continuously improved performance standards for the entire aquaculture supply chain — farms, hatcheries, processing plants and feed mills — that assure healthful foods produced through environmentally and socially responsible means. BAP certification is based on independent audits that evaluate compliance with the BAP standards developed by the Global Aquaculture Alliance.
