Introducing Global Aquaculture Advocate's New Website

Introducing the New Global Aquaculture Advocate Website

Two months ago, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced the transition of its treasured publication, the Global Aquaculture Advocate, from print to digital. On Thursday, the brand new Advocate website, GAA Advocate, will be officially unveiled.

Global Aquaculture Advocate homepageSince 1998, the Global Aquaculture Advocate has been integral to GAA’s identity as a trusted source of information on responsible aquaculture. The new Advocate blends the best of the print magazine with the timeliness, convenience and interactivity of a website.

The website is accompanied by a weekly newsletter; the first Advocate newsletter will be dispatched on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 9 a.m. EST. The newsletter will contain the latest Advocate articles and select GAA and Best Aquaculture Practices news and activities.

(The frequency of GAA’s eUpdate newsletter is being reduced from every other week to monthly.)

The website features the production-centric content traditionally found in the print magazine, in addition to supply- and market-related content. Advocate content is organized by theme. The categories are animal health and welfare, environmental and social responsibility, feed sustainability, investment, marketplace, leadership and innovation, and consumer education. The categories align with the seven major challenges facing aquaculture growth, as identified by GAA at its annual GOAL conference.

Access to the website will be unlimited through Dec. 31, 2015. As of of Jan. 1, 2016, access to the website will be limited; users who register will be able to access a total of up to five Advocate articles, and only GAA members will receive unlimited access to the website. GAA has also redesigned its media kit for 2016 and restructured its membership, adding a new “subscriber” membership level for those interested only in unlimited access to the Advocate website.

I welcome your feedback on the Advocate website. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at steven.hedlund@gaalliance.org, Advocate Editor James Wright at james.wright@gaalliance.org or Advocate Editor Emeritus Dr. Jory at darryl.jory@gaalliance.org.

It’s an exciting time for the Advocate. But the 17-year-old publication would not be in a position to transition from print to digital without the foresight of GAA President Dr. George Chamberlain and the dedication of the editorial and production team — Jory, David Wolfe and Lorraine Jennemann. It’s their commitment that has made the Advocate what it is today, and we look forward to continuing to deliver that commitment in a format that’s more timely, convenient and interactive.
