Lima Auditor Training Course Draws 41 Attendees

The Global Aquaculture Alliance’s (GAA) Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) division held a successful BAP auditor training course at the Crowne Plaza Lima in Lima, Peru, from Feb. 4 to 10.

The course had a total of 41 attendees, including 26 auditors (18 of whom are new to the BAP program) and seven industry observers. Participants traveled from all over the world to attend the course, including Brazil, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Scotland and Vietnam.

The course covered the BAP standards for processing plants, hatcheries, farms and feed mills. The course also included an update on a major tilapia producer in Colombia that is now being studied for the purposes of area management.

The course was taught by Ken Corpron, BAP program integrity analyst; Guy Ewing, a seafood processing specialist; Jeff Peterson, BAP program integrity advisor; and Shaun O’Loughlin, learning solutions specialist.

The next auditor training course will be held at the Global Aquaculture Alliance’s headquarters in Portsmouth, N.H., USA, from June 24 to 30, 2018. New auditor candidates, existing auditors requiring refresher training and observers — including government officials, producers and other industry stakeholders — are encouraged to attend.
