Chamberlain, Mallison Present at North Atlantic Seafood Forum

Chamberlain, Mallison to Present at North Atlantic Seafood Forum

Global Aquaculture Alliance President George Chamberlain is among the plenary speakers at the open of the North Atlantic Seafood Forum (NASF) in Bergen, Norway, from March 5 to 7. GAA is a co-sponsor of the 14th annual event, which drew some 900 attendees and 120 speakers last year.

Chamberlain is part of a March 6 session titled “The importance of sustainability as a driver for growth” along with Rupert Howes, CEO of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). It’s the third of three morning sessions featuring a number of distinguished speakers, including Norwegian Prime Minister H.E. Erna Solberg, Icelandic Fisheries Minister H.E. Kristjan Þór Júlíusson and Arni Mathiesen, assistant director general of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization.

Also speaking at the NASF is GAA Executive Director Andrew Mallison, who is giving a presentation on Global Seafood Assurances (GSA) as part of the March 6 whitefish supply outlook session. Chamberlain will also talk about GSA, which is a new, independent, not-for-profit organization established to meet marketplace and public expectations for assurances across the board in aquaculture and fisheries.

Through a new partnership forged with NASF in December, GAA, as a leading voice for aquaculture, is co-sponsoring the March 7 sustainability session along with the MSC, contributing to the direction of the session and serving on the NASF planning committee.

In addition to Chamberlain and Mallison, representing GAA at the NASF will be GAA Development Director Iain Shone; Best Aquaculture Practices Standards Coordinator Dan Lee; Mike Berthet, BAP market development manager for Europe; Greg Brown, BAP VP of business development; GAA Communications Manager Steven Hedlund; and GAA Editorial Manager James Wright, editor of the Global Aquaculture Advocate.
