Patagonia Seafarms Is Chile’s First To Offer Four-Star BAP Salmon

Chile’s Patagonia Seafarms is Latin America’s first company and the fifth company worldwide qualified to offer four-star Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) salmon.

Four-star BAP status denotes that a product originates from a BAP-certified processing plant, farm, hatchery and feed mill. It’s the highest such achievement in the BAP program.

Owned by Yadran Quellon S.A., Patagonia Seafarms became eligible to offer four-star BAP salmon once its three Pisciculutras Las Quemas Chile S.A. hatcheries earned BAP certification. Also BAP certified are its processing plant, a number of its farm sites and three feed mills in Chile from which it sources feed.

The other four companies qualified to offer four-star BAP salmon are located in Canada — Northern Harvest Sea Farms Inc., Natures Sea Farms Inc., Marine Harvest Canada Inc. and True North Salmon Co. Ltd.

About BAP
A division of the Global Aquaculture Alliance, Best Aquaculture Practices is an international certification program based on achievable, science-based and continuously improved performance standards for the entire aquaculture supply chain — farms, hatcheries, processing plants and feed mills — that assure healthful foods produced through environmentally and socially responsible means. BAP certification is based on independent audits that evaluate compliance with the BAP standards developed by the Global Aquaculture Alliance.
