Peter Carpenter Hired As BAP Certification Manager
The Global Aquaculture Alliance’s Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) division has expanded its management team with the addition of Peter Carpenter as BAP certification manager, effective immediately.
Carpenter comes to BAP with more than 30 years of seafood experience, most recently with Aqua Star. As BAP certification manager, Carpenter will provide full customer service to BAP-certified facilities pursuing re-certification. He will lead the transition of the BAP certification management team from GAA’s Lynnwood, Washington, office to its Portsmouth, New Hampshire, office over the next few months.
“We are pleased to have Peter join our team of talented women and men at the GAA as we continue our advocacy for sustainable and responsible aquaculture,” said GAA Executive Director Wally Stevens. “His extensive experience in all aspects of the seafood industry will serve us well.”
Carpenter acted as Aqua Star’s director of quality assurance and sustainability from 2007 to 2012 and served as a consultant for the Seattle-based supplier from 2012 to 2015, where he advise customers on a number of issues, including food safety, sustainability, social compliance, regulatory and product inspection.
Previously, he worked for Fishery Products International in Danvers, Massachusetts, where he acted as director of quality assurance from 2006 to 2007, quality enhancement and process manager from 2005 to 2006 and raw material inspection services manager from 1998 to 2001. He began his career in seafood with National Sea Products (now High Liner Foods) in Portsmouth in 1982 and also worked for SeaWise in Portsmouth.
Carpenter will work out of GAA’s Portsmouth office and report to GAA CFO Jeff Fort.
