Q&A with Charles Engrem of Wenger Manufacturing

Tell us a little bit about your background.
I joined Wenger 18 months ago to create and keep customers. I support the Aqua Sales Team with designing highly effective process solutions for Aquafeed customer extrusion and drying needs, as well as developing strategies and innovation for our offerings. Prior to Wenger, my 40 year career has been devoted to the leadership of Feed Manufacturing Operations teams with domestic and global companies in vertically integrated and commercial feed organizations. Those projects have included full feed plants, multiple aquaculture and pet process lines, portable plants, and expansions. I’ve held multiple roles in managing specific subject matter specialties such as; business strategy and performance, capital planning, budgeting, project management, talent development, operational excellence, supply chain quality, food safety, aquaculture & pet process, maintenance, packaging, etc.
Why did you join GAA?
I joined GAA to network with professionals in the aquaculture supply chain. We want to continue to be a solutions provider, and knowing our clients needs requires a holistic understanding.
What solutions does responsible aquaculture provide?
Responsible aquaculture is an efficient means of feeding the world’s protein needs and can be done sustainably. It is a healthy versatile protein which can be fed with sustainably sourced nutrients.
What are the three words that best describe the future of the industry?
Sustainable, Growth, Efficient.
