Tell us a bit about your background.

I am a biologist with 30 years of experience in aquaculture. I work in the public sector on issues of promoting projects for the cultivation of species such as tilapia and carp, marine shrimp, culture of bivalve mollusks and others, aimed at small and medium-sized fish farmers. I have experience in issues of water quality, rural extension and public policies of aquaculture and fisheries at national and regional level in Central America.

Why did you join GAA?

I joined the GAA mainly to be updated on the development of aquaculture worldwide, and to know the new trends of the activity and in that sense to support with information the young professionals who start and the community of farmers in general.

What solutions do responsible aquaculture provide?

Responsible aquaculture must be carried out to achieve a balance between food production and the ecosystem so that the demand for water, energy, supplies and health does not adversely affect the environment and other living beings.

What are the three words that best describe the future of the industry?

Technology, sustainability and health.

Where is the most interesting place you’ve traveled to?

I have traveled to several places for work reasons, the most interesting places have been Brazil and Taiwan, in which I could visit several farms and research facilities.
