Steve Hart Joins GAA As VP Of Education, Outreach

The Global Aquaculture Alliance is pleased to announce that Steven Hart will be joining the organization as vice president of education and outreach, effective June 29.

In his role, Hart will perform a range of functions involving communications, coordination, and program development and management. His responsibilities will include developing educational materials on responsible aquaculture practices, investigating emerging issues affecting aquaculture and its stakeholders, working with GAA constituents to respond to emerging issues, expanding activities with other aquaculture and seafood groups, and generating content for GAA’s communications vehicles.

Hart will report to GAA President George Chamberlain.

“We have had the pleasure of interacting with Steve for several years and have been impressed with his knowledge, leadership and passion for responsible aquaculture. He’s a rising star and a natural fit for GAA,” said Chamberlain.

“As the GAA looks to increase both its advocacy and education outreach on all matters aquaculture, it is critical to start with a solid grasp of the issues and the work already underway to address those issues. Steve will add strength to the incredible leadership that George Chamberlain has provided to the aquaculture industry for many years in the areas of knowledge creation and applied research. We are delighted to be able to attract such a talented individual as Steve Hart to our ranks,” said GAA Executive Director Wally Stevens.

Hart has been executive director of the Soy Aquaculture Alliance (SAA) in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, since 2011. He directed the formation of SAA, which develops new, domestic markets for U.S. soybeans through the development of U.S. aquaculture production. He was also involved in the formation of the Coalition of U.S. Seafood Production in 2013.

Previously, Hart was director of aquaculture for Indiana Soybean Alliance from 2007 to 2011. He has a bachelor of science and a master of science in fisheries and wildlife, with a concentration on aquaculture, from Michigan State University, and doctorate of philosophy in fisheries and wildlife from Purdue University. He has also been a GAA member since 2011.
