Wally Stevens Inducted into Boston Seafood Hall of Fame
Congratulations to Global Aquaculture Alliance’s Wally Stevens, who was inducted into the Boston Seafood Hall of Fame by the Boston Fisheries Foundation during the 6th Annual Boston Seafood Festival on Aug. 13.
Stevens was honored as the 2017 inductee for his nearly 50 years of work in the seafood industry promoting responsible practices. Over the last 10 years as GAA’s executive director, Stevens has championed GAA’s mission of feeding the world through responsible aquaculture and fostered the growth of the organization’s industry-leading Best Aquaculture Practices third-party certification program.
“Wally has been a leader in the seafood industry for decades. A true innovator, Wally has touched virtually all aspects of the seafood business,” said Richard Stavis, a Boston Fisheries Foundation board member and CEO of Stavis Seafoods.
Stevens’ career in seafood dates back to 1971. He has acted as senior VP of operations at Booth Fisheries Co. in New Hampshire, president of salmon-farming company Ocean Products in Maine, and president of Boston-based distributor Slade Gorton & Co. for more than 17 years. Stevens has also been active in the National Fisheries Institute, serving as its chairman in 2001 and co-founding the organization’s Future Leaders program.
The Boston Seafood Hall of Fame was established in 2014 to honor the pioneers and leaders of New England’s seafood community. Stevens joins three other inductees: The late Gerry Frattollilo; Brian Rothschild, president of the New Bedford-based Center for Sustainable Fisheries; and Angela Sanfilippo, president of the Gloucester Fishermen’s Wives Association.
