A Note For Aquaculture Advocates From Wally Stevens

Wally Stevens’ Letter To Fellow Aquaculture Advocates

Dear Fellow Aquaculture Advocates,

The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Our success is totally attributable to the support and encouragement from all the stakeholders to the aquaculture industry. From the earliest days operating out of living rooms to our current breadth of operations headquartered in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, we have come a great distance together!

One of our proudest accomplishments has been the creation of our Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) third-party aquaculture certification program and its broad acceptance by both those in the aquaculture production chain and the marketplace endorsers. This image outlines the elements of the BAP program we hold ourselves responsible to deliver. Is BAP credible, comprehensive and innovative? What can we do to improve this program so as to increase the supplies of responsibly produced and sustainable products from aquaculture?

Those are the questions we ask of ourselves, and of you. We are pleased with how much we have accomplished together these first 20 years, yet challenged with how much more needs to be done. Thanks again for your support of GAA and the BAP program, and do let us know what we need to do better going forward. Remember, we are but 20 years old — our future lies before us.

Sincerely,
Wally Stevens
