Ingredients for Success: Taking Stock in the Sustainable Development of Aquafeeds

Iain Shone, director of market development-Europe for the Global Seafood Alliance, kicks off the session with his opening remarks.

Piers Hart, global lead for aquaculture for the World Wildlife Fund, sets the scene for the session by discussing the global food system’s impact on land and water use, biodiversity loss and climate change.

Following Piers Hart’s presentation, Aisla Jones of The Co-op in the United Kingdom and Gert le Roux of Woolworths South Africa join GSA’s Iain Shone to discuss the global food system and efforts to reduce the global seafood industry’s carbon footprint, with a focus on aquafeeds.

Rowan Yearsley of Marifeed joins Gert le Roux of Woolworths South Africa for an on-the-ground account of latest developments in abalone feeds and feeding techniques.

In this series of presentations, representatives of the feed-manufacturing and feed-ingredients sectors provides updates on how their respective sector is contributing to the reduction of global seafood industry’s carbon footprint. Presenters include Jorge Díaz of Skretting (feed manufacturing), Clément Ray (insect meal), Chris Haacke of Corbion (microalgae) and Enno Fricke and Vanessa Fuchs of the Alfred Wegener Institute (R&D and byproducts).

Libby Woodhatch of MarinTrust and James Fox Davies of Three-Sixty Aquaculture and chair of the Aquaculture Leadership Group for England meet with GSA’s Iain Shone on the seafront at Weymouth in the UK to close out the session with a discussion on what it will really take to meet the aquafeeds sustainability challenge.
